Serving, Connecting, & Equipping Congregations:

Lutheran SeniorLife strives to be an informational and educational resource for pastors and congregations. One way we accomplish this is by offering professional speakers to share timely information with your group or congregation. Speakers are available to present on a variety of topics, such as preventing falls, technology for daily living, bereavement, and care options as we age. Presentations are done at no charge.

We are also available to assist pastors and congregation members in identifying appropriate resources or services to satisfy an individual’s health care needs.

We are pleased to partner with the synod to provide the Health & Wellness Ministry, which is available to support pastors and congregations in their efforts to meet the Biblical imperatives of loving and serving our neighbors.

Lutheran Service Society

Since 1907, Lutheran Service Society has been a nonprofit provider of human services that seeks to empower our neighbors to lead independent, dignified, and secure lives. To accomplish this, Lutheran Service Society provides housing opportunities for low-income seniors, wellness activities for older adults, adoption and foster care services for children and families, and nutritious meals and friendly visits for adults unable to manage a balanced diet on their own.

Under the leadership and management of Lutheran SeniorLife since 2014, Lutheran Service Society serves more than 3,000 people in the synod each year.

Serving, Connecting, & Equipping Congregations:

Lutheran Service Society functions as a service outlet for Lutheran congregations to bring healing and wholeness to people of all ages. We offer volunteer and group outreach opportunities to congregation members. We also serve individuals and families in the congregations who are looking to foster or adopt a child; who are in need of a smaller, more affordable home; who have a nutritional need and potential feelings of isolation; and older adults who have a desire to stay healthy and active in a social setting.

Lutheran Service Society has a long history of partnering with Lutheran congregations to meet emerging needs in the community. In Beaver County, as an example, Meals On Wheels has persisted as a need for more than 50 years, and we continue to partner with Lutheran congregations to provide this vital service to residents in all corners of the county.

We are always eager to equip Lutheran congregations for service by providing temple talks, group presentations, and educational materials. We offer information on our individual programs and services, as well as on specific topics such as the benefits of permanency for children who have suffered abuse or the loss of their birth parents.

How can congregations support LSS?

In addition to keeping us in prayer, congregations can support the work of specific programs or services in the following ways:

ADOPTION & FOSTER CARE
Encourage families and individuals throughout the synod to consider parenting a child in need. Connect interested families directly with Lutheran Service Society. Promote the importance of foster care and adoption services. Share the benefits of permanency for abused and orphaned children. Conduct a drive for memory book supplies to be used to help children understand their journey towards permanency.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Develop a visitation ministry to help residents combat feelings of isolation. Sponsor parties or family-style meals for the residents.

MEALS ON WHEELS
Monetary donations, food drives, and volunteers are always needed to benefit those served through Meals On Wheels. Group/off-site projects are also available. We are eager to get the word out that we will deliver to any Beaver County resident in need, not just in the communities surrounding our physical locations.

SENIOR CENTERS
We welcome individuals or groups from the congregations to share their knowledge or talents in the form of a class or presentation. These can be singular engagements or an ongoing series. At one center, we currently enjoy the leadership of a retired Lutheran pastor who offers a weekly Bible study.

We appreciate the opportunity to give a temple talk or to speak with a small group about any of our work in the community. We also ask congregations to share our contact information and distribute our flyers and brochures through congregational newsletters, informational displays, websites, and social media.
